Fortnite is one of the battle royale games taking the mobile gaming world by storm. Developed by the guys at Epic Games, the game takes the battle royale format with its thrilling action and adventure to new heights by having its own twist and making it free.
The game’s stylized graphics are outstanding, seamlessly integrating the colors of characters and items in the game with the background. There are no notable glitches which, if you consider the migration to mobile platforms while keeping the high-quality graphics, is truly impressive. It might, however, be more difficult to spot an opponent on a smaller screen as they may seem nothing more than a black spot even when using a scope.
The game audio is decent enough with directional audio aids in the form of an on-screen indicator. The circular indicator can show you where the sounds are coming from and with what intensity.
Gameplay - 4/5
Fortnite Battle Royale has fantastic gameplay that involves throwing you with 99 other players onto a massive map with the aim of being the sole survivor. Alternatively, you can play together with friends.
It starts you off with nothing but a pickaxe, and it is upon you to start hunting for weapons, health packs, and other resources. This will aid you in two aspects: eliminating other players and surviving the map’s elements to stay alive.
The particular element you need to watch out for is the storm that will make the map smaller at certain intervals. This will force the players to confront each other. This is where the resources such as the weapons and building materials will come into use. The building materials can be used to move to higher ground and get a better chance of attacking the opponents.
Controls - 3/5
The on-screen controls work fine in the game. On the left side of the game is the joystick which takes care of movement, while on the right there are action buttons along with another joystick for aiming.
There are notable downsides to how the controls feel when you compare the experience to PC and console gaming. It’s tough to be precise even after getting some experience when it comes to close range and long distance shooting.
Lasting Appeal - 5/5
The game has a moderate lasting appeal due to the countless possible outcomes. After all, there are 99 unpredictable players who are out to kill anyone else on the island. The signature feature of building things, which can aid in your survival and prove useful in the final stages of the game, just got to make the itch to replay the game even more intense.
Once you get past the initial discomfort with the controls and get used to them, the game becomes quite easy to play. The fact that post-death you can become a spectator and observe how the survivors and final winner play makes it easier to devise new strategies.
The game’s unique gameplay options are undoubtedly its best features. There is so much for you to enjoy, from collecting resources to engaging in intense firefights alone or with friends (that may be playing even on other platforms!). Overall, you will have a lot of fun playing Fortnite.
